What can all Scouting members do to protect themselves and others

  • Please observe social distancing.
  • Scouting members should take the same precautions they would for any common cold or flu.
  • Wash your hands frequently and thoroughly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. *(Alcohol-based hand sanitizers with at least 60% alcohol content can work in a pinch, but they're generally not as effective as soap and water).
  • Hands should be washed before eating, after using the bathroom, and when you come inside from outdoor activities that caused hands to get dirty.
  • Avoid touching your mouth, eyes or noses.
  • Cough and/or sneeze into your elbows and not your hands.
  • Distance yourself from anyone coughing or sneezing.
  • Encourage Healthy Habits, like eating a healthy diet, exercising, and getting enough sleep.
  • If you are sick, stay away from school, work, Scouts and others.
  • If you have any symptoms of the virus, seek medical attention immediately and follow the advice of your medical professional.

Dear Scouting Families,

If you have not had a chance to read my prior message I have included it below in which it gives instruction on Scouting activities and supporting Gov. Sisolak's statement.

Scouting at Home

Please visit this great resource page for ways to do Scouting at Home during the COVID-19 pandemic. Great ideas for Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, and Venturing.

Camp Cards

Due to the camp cards being affected by COVID-19 we are extending the turn in date for the camp cards to Friday, June 12th. Camp Cards will have to be turned in to the upstairs Scout Office or by arrangement with your District Executive. Beginning Saturday, June 13 the late fee begins so please make arrangements to turn these in. The Scout Shop will not be able to take any returns.

Advancement affected by COVID-19

Please make sure you take the time to read this Q&A. It answers questions for Cub Scout and Scouts BSA units and how to handle different needs with advancement.

If you have immediate needs for handling Eagle Scout paperwork or questions please email eagle@nevadabsa.org

Merit Badges Offered Online for Scouts BSA

Are you a merit badge counselor that would be willing to offer a merit badge class online?  If so please let us know by completing this quick Questionnaire. We plan to select instructors next Monday night and then between Wednesday and Friday we will share the registration links for Troops to register youth. Classes will be view-able online through GoToMeeting.com and will begin April 8th with a cost of $5 per class. Want to be a counselor for this please complete our Questionnaire.

Letter on 3/18

Dear Scouting Families,

I share with you a request to help slow the spread of COVID-19. In consultation with our Council Risk Management Committee and based on the statement of Gov. Steve Sisolak I share some guidance.

In the spread of COVID-19 our healthcare facilities can easily become overwhelmed. By slowing down the transmission we are able to not overload a facility all at one time. Our way of helping in this process is by evaluating our activities.

At this time, I ask that all Scout Units and Scout meetings not meet in person following Gov. Sisolak's request for 30 days until April 17th. If you have the need to still meet please use technology to meet by phone or video conference. Our request includes all Scouting units in California and Nevada that are part of the Nevada Area Council.

Travelling as a Scout unit should be cancelled in this time frame. If you are out travelling right now please consider your contact with uncontrolled environments and with your contact with others and your physical surrounding.

We hope people will act as good citizens and restrict themselves from public interaction if they are not feeling well. Our healthcare facilities need our help in slowing the transmission. As Scouts, we have an opportunity to show that yesterday we were a Scout, today we are, and tomorrow we are needed as Scouts.

Facilities

The Webster Service Center (Scout Office) and Scout Shop will close at noon on March 18th and we plan to reopen to the public on April 20th. If you have questions please feel free to email to info@nevadabsa.org. If you have Eagle related questions and needs please email eagle@nevadabsa.org. We will do our best to help facilitate any questions.

Trading Post

You may email in an order to nactpost@scouting.org and order forms can be found at www.nevadabsa.org/scoutshop. We will do our best at getting orders shipped out in a timely manner and will begin to process these orders beginning after April 2nd.

Summer Programs

All planned summer programs like Cub Scout day camp and resident camp and all Scouts BSA programs at Camp Fleischmann will continue as planned and we are carefully watching the timeline and will update you if any changes are made.
