The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

Brief History of the Nevada Area Council

The purpose of the Boy Scouts of America, incorporated on February 8, 1910, and chartered by Congress in 1916, is to provide an educational program for youth and young adults to build desirable qualities of character, to train in the responsibilities of participatory citizenship, and to develop personal fitness.

The Nevada Area Council, BSA was granted a charter by the National Council, Boy Scouts of America in 1924 and charged with the responsibility of organizing and supporting successful Cub Scout Packs, Scouts BSA Troops, Venturing Crews, Sea Scout Ships, Explorer Posts, and Learning for Life Groups within its 101,355 square mile geographical boundary. Our boundary includes northern Nevada and northeastern California.

The Nevada Area Council operates a full-service Scout office located in Reno, Nevada. The Scout office offers a full line of uniforms, official camping gear, handicrafts, literature, and Scouting accessories. The Council operates one premiere camping facility, Camp Fleischmann, near Chester, CA. Under the guidance of the Scout Executive, the Nevada Area Council has a professional staff of 4 and an office staff of 3 who work in cooperation with adult volunteers in delivering the program of Scouting to the youth of our communities. A Scouting professional’s responsibility is to recruit, train, and motivate volunteers and to support successful Scout units.
